Abstract

Hypersthenic gneisses of the coastal outcrops and quarries of the Dokhna River are characterized by properties characteristic of iron-siliceous rocks. Formed as a result of granulite metamorphism of sedimentary rocks 2.0±0.1 billion years ago, they are composed of quartz and orthoclase, enriched with magnetite, which has a banded character, which allows them to be classified as a sedimentary banded iron formation of the Superior type.
